Dispelled Mommy Myth

I crept in the girl's room this morning to pry Bella from bed, and prayed not to wake Marleigh.

Lifting her out of bed felt like lifting my leg out of a knee-deep mud bath!

She was NOT ready to wake up!

Usually she's easy-going in the mornings, but Thursday mornings are always difficult. Coming in from church on Wednesday nights, an hour past our usual bedtime, always seems to pose a problem for the next morning.

I gently coaxed her awake and persuaded her to make it to the table for breakfast.
Not without her fair share of grumbling and complaining.

I'm NOT a fan of whining, yet I still tried to handle her with love, not wanting to get the whole morning "off track".

She offered me many excuses about how she just wanted to sleep a few minutes longer! One after the other, my answer was constant; "You can't always get what you want!"(in the form of song)!

Despising my enthusiastic answer, she finally spit out what she had been itching to say the entire time, "I wish I were you, 'cause then I could stay in bed  ALL DAY LONG!"

Needless to say, after devotions I added a new word to her vocabulary: MYTH.

I thoroughly dispelled this "Stay at Home Mommy Myth"!

The MYTHBUSTERS are welcome to come sit with my other two kids any ol' day and disclose this truth!

To continue with my list of thanks on this Thankful Thursday, this week, I am most thankful for:

A Break

Marleigh and Nate woke from their naps with added spunk, and we rushed out of the house to get Bella from school.

There she was in front of the school waiting diligently for us to arrive. Greetings were exhanged and we were on our way back home.

Friday's always bring a lot of joy for Bella (and all of us as well!). She likes to show me her selections from the prize box, tell me all about her day, and show me the stack of papers from the week of all the progress she has made!

As soon as we arrived home, she pulled the stack from her bag, eager to share all she had learned from the week! But she needed one thing first...my UNDIVIDED attention!

That's a hard thing to come by in the afternoon! Everyone wants snack and drink, and those little ones (with their added spunk) are quite the challenge, requiring a small fraction of may attention.

So I zoomed around, getting apples and milk for all, and sat to listen to Bella. We had a few interruptions though, including: two dirty diaper changes, a spilled glass of milk, letting the dog in and out, taking the trash out (so Marleigh would quit digging in it), and washing Marleigh's hands!

I sighed, and plopped back down in the chair beside Bella, ready to try once again to give my full attention. Bella sighed as well, and looked at me with concern, saying, "Mommy, you never get a break!"

We just sat there for a moment exchanging sweet smiles, as I wondered:
Could it be possible? Has someone finally grasped just how busy I am? This could be monumental! Now that she's noticed, maybe she'll desire to pitch in a little more! Oh, my life might get a little less busy...all because of this 5 year old discovery.

I smiled a little bigger at my precious daughter!

She couldn't endure the silence much longer. She gently put her had on top of mine, and leaned in to say, "Mommy, can you peel all the skin off my apple in one long string like they did at the orchard, and then cut it in five equal pieces?"

Her statement was in sync with Marleigh falling out of the kitchen chair, and Nate screaming as he ripped the band-aid from his boo-boo!

So much for that thought.

BACK TO WORK!

Mommy's NEVER get a break!

Train A Child

Proverbs 22:6
"Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Being that none of my children can read yet, I've struggled for as long as they've been around with ensuring that they will value their Bibles and know how precious having a quiet time with the Lord can be! Of course, nothing can beat a parents example, but I want them to find joy in it themselves. Other than our family devotion time, I wanted Bella, my five year old, to start getting more (especially considering her recent decision)! I figured her start to "big kid" school would be just a good a time as any to start something new! Her birthday happened to be right at the start of school and she had her eye on a girls devotional book at our closest Christian book store! And above any toy or piece of clothing, I was most excited about buying this:

Bella starts every morning with her "appointment with God" (I join in as the designated reader!). She wakes up every morning ready for this appointment. She and I sit at the kitchen table and read our verse for the day, a tip to start our day, and a prayer of how to follow through with our verse! We also make a deal that when she gets home from school each day, we will both share how/if we "fleshed out" the verse for the day! I love my mornings with her and only hope that this is the beginning to her developing a love for the Word!

What are your ways you incorporate the Word in the daily activity of your child(ren)? Normally I try to make a very elaborate plan, but I am so thankful for resources available such as this one and many more that help my children connect to the Word!

THIS, works for me!
