A Penny For Your Thoughts

Okay...not really! Let's face it, I'm a Stay at Home Mommy; I collect pennies!

BUT...

I would still like to hear your thoughts today.
A reader inquiry of sorts.

Today I would like for you to share your thoughts and wisdom on, "KNOWING GOD".

What does it mean to you?

Rest assured that I'll throw my thoughts in as well, in the form of a post tomorrow.

Just leave a comment below or a comment on FB under today's link!

Can't wait to hear what you have to say!

  1. My thoughts on knowing God. Hmm. :)

My husband often tells the kids in our ministry that if you have a "friend" that you never, ever talk to, are they really your friend? I can say that I am friends with someone I haven't seen or talked to in many years but the truth is that really we are only acquaintances now. I don't really know them anymore. I want to know God personally. I want to talk to Him daily, hourly even. I want to know His heart, His desires. I want to be close enough to reach out and touch Him anytime I want. Knowing God to me means really having a personal connection with Him.

  2. Knowing God to me means knowing His Word. The more I know His Word, the more I know His heart for me. The more I know His heart for me, the more I love Him. He lays it all out for us, all we have to do is pick it up and soak up the knowing - soak up the love.

  3. Getting to know GOD is receiving a revelation of who I am. Seeing more and more how I still need to get to know HIM.
How I know GOD now is more and more overwhelming, day by day HIS greatness and goodness becomes more visable to me. At times almost tangable.Actually tangable because HIS provision is often measurable.
    HE so wonderful.
GOD is just too great for me to be able to know or fathom (think that is the word) HIM completely and fully.
Knowing GOD is causing me to be able to receive HIS goodness.
I always end up at the place where all I can say is GOD is GOD.
There will always be more of HIM to see and learn. Although JESUS did say to us "you see me you saw the FATHER"

This where I'll leave the rambles of my head.

  4. I think knowing God involves learning about Him through His Word, and understanding that the God we read about in the Garden is the same God we serve today. His love never fails and His mercies are new every morning. God is always speaking to us, revealing Himself to us - we just have to open our eyes and listen for His voice. He wants to shower His amazing love on us. The more we accept His love, the more we know Him. The more we know Him, the more we love Him.
    Great question, Lindsay!

  5. The longer I am married and the longer that I am a mother, the more I understand the kind of relationship that God is looking for from us. Our human relationships can ebb and flow like the tide and so can our relationship with God. I would suggest that knowing God means to know His thoughts, know His preferences, know His friends, know His words, know what He likes to say and know what He WOULD say if He hasn't already said it. I'm looking forward to your post tomorrow! :0)

  6. Knowing God means knowing His likes and dislikes. What He would approve of and would not approve of. Studying Him like your about to take the biggest test ever. Having that personal knowledge of who He is inside and out. Knowing what He would do before He does it. Is giving up yourself COMPLETELY to see Him in His fullest!

    Thanks for the question! Blessings

  7. Wow... You don't pick little topics, do you... ;-)

When I hear the phrase "Knowing God", to me it describes the personal, intimate relationship we as Christians seek with Him. Through prayer, studying and absorbing lessons from His Word, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we draw nearer to the example Christ set for our lives.

Knowing the presence of God in our lives should be our firmest goal, our heart's deepest desire, and the focus of my ministry.

    Have a Blessed Day!

  8. When I think about what it really means to "know" God I recall all of my efforts when I was first saved. I spent so much time learning and reading about Him... filling my head up with Him. At some point I realized that my head was full, but my heart was still empty. So I prayed. I began to understand that praying was the process of intimacy with God... it's where I met His love for me, believed it to be true and where I fell in love with Him. That love opened my heart up to all that I had learned in my head and a supernatural transfer occurred. That's when it happened... when my heart began to fill... that's when really "knowing" God started for me. Love these thoughts from JI Packer's book "Knowing God"...

"What were we made for? What aim should we set ourselves in life? To know God. What is the “eternal life” that Jesus give? Knowledge of God. “This is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight, and contentment, than anything else? Knowledge of God. “Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me” (Jer. 9:23f). What, of all the states God ever sees man in, gives Him most pleasure? Knowledge of Himself. “I desire…the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings,” says God (Hos. 6:6)."

Great question Lindsay, that is wonderful to ponder :)Blessings!

  9. Hhmmm...knowing God? I think to know God you have to truly seek Him in His word and cultivate a relationship with Him. You can't know someone if you don't spend time with them!
